About
Current research interests:
I am interested in gender, sexuality and politics in modern China. My research focuses on women practicing violence during the Communist-led Land Reform in North China from 1946 to 1948. Using “worn-out shoes” (poxie) women as a lens, I demonstrate the significance of this Land Reform campaign in promoting the militarization of women and explore the complicity of women in atrocities and crimes during the revolution.
Teaching Interests:
Gender, Sexuality and Power in China and Asia; the Cultural History of Chinese Martial Arts; the History of Agrarian Rebellions and Revolutions in China
