The Journal of Japanese Studies selects one article per issue to have free access for all readers for 60 days from the release of the issue (through April 5, 2021). For the Winter 2021 issue, Erin Brightwell's recent work on a famous medieval commentary to The Tale of Genji and its subversive use of a Tang-dynasty short story to reread the figure of the Third Princess was selected.
