During the 2017 Summer, Tizarat Gill (alumni '17) did an internship for the South Asian American Digital Archive (saada.org), generously funded by the Center for South Asian Studies and sponsored by the Department of American Culture.  During that time, she and Assistant Professor of American Culture, Manan Desai, researched the life and work of H.G. Mudgal, a migrant from India who, in the 1920s and '30s served as editor for The Negro World newspaper and worked extensively with Marcus Garvey's Pan-Africanist movement.  Their piece "H.G. Mudgal, Harlem Editor" was published on SAADA's website Tides in February in honor of Black History Month:  https://www.saada.org/tides/article/hg-mudgal-harlem-editor
