LSA Collegiate Fellow Alyssa Paredes' dissertation, "Plantation Peripheries: The Multiple Makings of Asia’s Banana Republic," was announced winner of the 2021 ICAS 12 Best Social Sciences Dissertation Award. ICAS is the annual conference of the International Institute for Asian Studies, among the largest of the world's organizations dedicated to the study of the region, and based at Leiden University. The award "honors outstanding publications in the field of Asian Studies, and aims to create an international focus for academic publications on Asia," and comes with a generous monetary prize. Dissertations from around twenty countries were entered in this category.
