Alyssa Paredes, an assistant professor in Sociocultural Anthropology, had a chapter featured in The Promise of Multispecies Justice. The new volume published by the Duke University Press centers on the following questions: What are the possibilities for multispecies justice? How do social justice struggles intersect with the lives of animals, plants, and other creatures?

Leading thinkers in anthropology, geography, philosophy, speculative fiction, poetry, and contemporary art answer these from diverse grounded locations. Paredes' chapter, "We Are Not Pests," interrogates the figure of the pest in anti-chemical activism in the Southern Philippines.
