Professor Damani Partidge speaks to Sidarth Bhatia of The Wire on Black Lives Matter and the protests, the global response, and the possibility for a different kind of future.

"Protesters have come out on the streets all over the world as a response to the killing of George Floyd, an African American man in Minneapolis. Many African Americans are angry at what they see as systemic and institutional biases against them. President Trump’s provocative utterances have added fuel to the fire.

"But the reaction to this killing shows that there is a coalition of People of colour, white people, marching all over the world and that makes it different, says American academic Damani Partridge. Will these protests achieve anything?

Would reducing funding to the police and routing it to social services help? Professor Partridge, Associate Professor of Anthropology at the Department of Afro-American and African studies at the University of Michigan speaks to Sidharth Bhatia."
