The Office of the Registrar will mail your diploma several weeks after the commencement ceremony. You should contact them directly if you have any questions about the diploma, including how your name appears on it and where it should be mailed.
The diploma indicates the degree you earned (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of General Studies), so you will receive one diploma even if you have multiple majors. Majors and minors are listed on the official transcript, but not on the diploma unless you receive Honors in a major through the Honors Program.
Degrees with distinction are awarded based on class ranking. Students who have been approved for graduation, have completed at least 45 graded in-residence credits, and rank in the top 3% of their class will receive a degree "with Highest Distinction." Those who rank in the top 10% of their class but not in the top 3% will receive a degree "with High Distinction." Those who rank in the top 25% of their class but not in the top 10% will receive a degree "with Distinction." Distinction levels are noted on the diploma and the official transcript.
The GPA ranges for the distinction are determined at the end of each May based on the cumulative GPAs of LSA’s graduating cohorts in that academic year (that May plus the previous August and December). These new ranges are then used for the May, August, and December graduating classes of that calendar year. You can also view our historical distinction ranges.
Due to COVID-19: Beginning with the Winter 2020 term, all Winter 2020 semester cumulative GPAs will be excluded in the calculation that determines new distinction ranges each year. However, all Winter 2020 grades will be included in the calculation that determines individual student distinctions at the time of graduation.
May, August, and December 2021 graduates (excluding WN 2020 GPA):
Highest Distinction: 3.973 - 4.000
High Distinction: 3.903 - 3.972
Distinction: 3.789 - 3.902
Information on other honors and awards can be found on LSA’s Honors and Awards page.
