About
What is your advising philosophy? College is more than academics: As I support students’ academic decision-making, I am mindful of experiences outside of the classroom which augments the learning that takes place inside the classroom. Students’ growth and development stems from both places, and it’s my role to help foster this. I spent four years helping employers recruit college students, so I have keen insight about what employers look for, and the value they place on all of these areas.
What was your path to Newnan? I grew up in northwest Ohio and never imagined returning to this area as an adult, but here I am! I went to college in Indiana, worked in Wisconsin, then headed east for grad school. I loved living in Vermont, so I stayed for 19 years while working at The University of Vermont. The best part of any job I’ve had was working directly with students, so when I decided to move to be closer to my family, I looked for a job that would allow me to spend most of my days doing this.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? Students make me laugh every day, and thanks to them, I am constantly learning about something new. I love hearing from students about where they are at and where they want to go. It is a privilege to support students through an exploration and decision making process.
Class you loved and why? During senior year of undergrad, I chose photography and ceramics as elective courses to finish my degree. I believed that after taking semesters of courses that I was required to take (some of which I loved and some of which I did not), I had earned the right to take some courses just for fun. As an added bonus, I was in class with a well-known and talented artist who challenged me to take the class seriously and produce quality work.
Interests and Hobbies: When I’m not cooking, I’m reading The Ethicist column in the New York Times, trying to get my cat to jump higher, or planning a vacation with my wife. My niece thinks I’m her personal gymnastics coach, so I also spend a lot of time watching her do back flips.
