About
What is your advising philosophy? To provide a transparent inclusive advising experience, where students can be open and still feel protected to take leaps of faith. Allowing students through self discovery and guidance to create their own path for greatness. Helping motivate students to stay the course and face their challenges head on. The rose in the concrete had a much harder path to grow, than the rose in rich soil. They both still blossomed to become roses, yet the rose with the challenge learned to never settle and never give into temporary hardships. There is always a story to be told when faced with adversity. I want students to develop the ability to advocate for themselves, and be the one to tell their own story.
What was your path to Newnan? After completing undergrad, I went on to do college advising at Saginaw High School through the Michigan College Advising Corps, while obtaining my Master's. There I developed my passion for working with students. After gaining more experience working in higher education, I knew I wanted my career focus to be guiding students to successful in academic growth and career exploration. I was fortunate enough to become an Advisor in Newnan and I love it!
Why did you join Newnan? I joined Newnan because Michigan is my home. LSA has been the foundation for the type of forward thinker I am today. LSA opened my eyes to what higher education is truly about. Beyond high academic standing, but wholistic personal growth, self-worth, and civic engagement. I joined Newnan to be able to help students tap into the potential they did not realize they possessed. Rather it be in the form of personal pressure or societal pressure, I want to help students identify their true self-identity through a liberal arts education. I want to be a guiding lighting to students when some moments feel dark.
Class you loved and why? Favorite undergraduate class at the University of Michigan was AnthroBio 368 with Professor Maureen Devlin. Professor Devlin by far was the most helpful and warm instructor I have ever had. The class was based on the human evolution and primates. The course dived deep into early evolution and Neanderthals. Her teaching style restructured my confidence and study habits that translated to other courses. Professor Devlin was so great I took another AnthroBio course with her!
Interests and hobbies: A HUGE sports fan (rather play than watch). Learning to play the Alto Saxophone. Love playing with my children and attending church.
