About
What is your advising philosophy?
My advising style is similar to the saying, "If you give a person a fish, you feed them for a day. If you teach them to fish, you feed them for a lifetime." However, I also believe it is important to ensure the person does not starve while learning how to fish. When applying this to advising, my goal is to educate a student regarding their options, empower them to make their own choices, and periodically check in to assist along the way.
What was your path to Newnan?
After completing my undergraduate degree I came straight to U-M to pursue a Master's in Higher Education. During that time I had the opportunity to work with both the Women In Science and Residence Program (WISE RP) and the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education (CSHPE) where I was exposed to some advising. At this point, I knew I wanted to continue working for the University of Michigan, but I did not feel I knew enough of the resources and opportunities on campus to immediately jump into advising. Therefore, I worked at Campus Information to become familiar with the existing programs and opportunities before I joined Newnan Academic Advising.
Why did you join Newnan?
I joined Newnan Academic Advising because it gave me the opportunity to help students make the most of their education both inside and outside of the classroom. The University of Michigan has become my home and I believe LSA exposes students to opportunities they may not have known existed and enables a student to find their passion sooner rather than later.
