Coordinator, Academic Standards and Academic Opportunities
About
What is your advising philosophy? I believe my job is to meet students where they are and help them get to where they want to be. I consider myself an advisor, not a decision maker. I believe we serve students best when we provide the advice and coaching needed to help them manage their academic program, overcome their obstacles, and recover from their setbacks.
What was your path to Newnan? While working on a Master of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School north of Chicago, I landed the job of Director of Minority Student Development at nearby Trinity College. It was that job that introduced me to academic advising. Based on that experience I was hired as a member of the LSA Academic Standards Board.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? The students! I love helping them navigate the transition from adolescence to adulthood and seeing them reach their educational goals. This is especially true for the students who I primarily see as an Academic Standards Board member, who overcome tremendous challenges in order to graduate from this University and go on to successful lives careers.
Class you loved and why? Systematic Theology. It helped me gain an in-depth understanding of the Christian faith and the arguments for and against it in preparation for pastoral ministry.
Interests and hobbies: My faith (Christianity), family, fraternity (Omega Psi Phi), politics, social justice, music (listening, not playing), and Law and Order (the original, of course)
