Detroit Youth Theatre Performance: Winter 2013
Students of English 319 and 326, in collaboration with the Prison Creative Arts Project, are hosting a performance and portfolio showcase in Studio One of the Walgreen Drama Center on the U-M North Campus.
U-M students facilitated semester-long creative arts workshops at four Detroit high schools. Each workshop has created its own play or portfolios, based on the lives and experiences of the high school students. These students have demonstrated tremendous strength and extraordinary dedication to their art forms. They have important stories to tell--stories which too often go unheard.
The schools represented will be:
- Cody High School: Portfolio workshops facilitated by Heather Barnes, Ellen Busch, Hanna Heebner, Aviva Marchione, and Kristen Nelson.
- The Detroit International Academy for Young Women (DIA): two theatre workshops, one facilitated by Alex Ngo and Leah Hargarten, one facilitated by Rachel Gubow and Shannon Deasy.
- Mumford High School: Theatre workshop facilitated by Steven Brown and Eric Szkarlat.
- Northwestern High School: Theatre workshop facilitated by Melissa Golliday and Yonah Lieberman.
Audience members may enter and exit between performances. Each performance runs approximately 30 minutes. If possible, please try not to disrupt a presentation in progress. Please come and support these incredible student artists!
