Programs
UROP is primarily designed for University of Michigan undergraduate students enrolled on the Ann Arbor campus who are seeking first time research experience. Student research assistants work alongside a faculty member, research scientist or professional practitioner on an ongoing or new research project. While primarily for first and second year students, there are a small number of opportunities for juniors and seniors, as returning UROP students to also participate in research experiences.
All students participating in UROP are:
- Assigned a peer advisor who they meet with on a regular basis
- Required to attend biweekly seminars
- Applying directly to faculty sponsors (with the aid of a peer advisor and UROP staff liaisons) to projects the STUDENT finds interesting and engaging
- Are responsible for scheduling their own research hours around the rest of their academic schedule

Michigan Research Community
MRC is a residential affiliate of UROP. It offers incoming first-year students the benefits of the UROP non-residential program, including a UROP research partnership with a faculty member in an area of their choosing, as well as a small, diverse and supportive community to call home. For more information visit the MRC website.
Programs during the Spring Summer
UROP Summer Research Fellowships
UROP sponsors several Summer Fellowship Programs for University of Michigan students seeking an intense research experience in traditional laboratory settings and in the community. A summer fellowship provides students with the chance to undertake and complete individual research projects; learn firsthand about the life of an academic researcher; think about academic and post graduate careers; and develop strong mentor relationships. In many cases students will use the summer to conduct work that forms the basis for an honors thesis or contributes to a published article. All of the summer fellowship programs include weekly seminars and other community- building opportunities for participants and conclude poster presentations at a symposium.
