Entering her final semester at UM, Lexi began studying in the UMMZ Mammal Division in the Fall of 2014.  A native of Michigan, Lexi joined the Mammal Division after taking mammalogy.  Her research project focuses on surveying small mammals from Syria via remains from owl pellets.  She is utilizing the UMMZ collections, as well as those from other institutions to identify hundreds of specimen remains.  She currently is finalizing the project and writing it up for publication.

"My experience in the Mammal Division has taught me how to work independently and teach myself how to classify and identify organisms using scientific literature, data, and museum specimens.  I will easily use these skills if I decide to go to graduate school in biology research or if I decide to work as a professional I have learned how to work independently on a project integrating information from biology classes and literature."
