FAQ

Can I apply if I have a sabbatical or other leave?

As a policy of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, a faculty member who takes college-funded sabbatical leave for either term of a given academic year (e.g., AY 2008-2009) may not apply to the Institute for a fellowship during the following year (e.g., AY 2009-2010). A faculty member who holds a fellowship at the Institute during a given academic year is expected to return to his or her duties in the University for at least one year. A faculty member who is eligible for a college-funded leave, such as a sabbatical, and is also chosen as an Institute Fellow will be expected to combine that support and Institute support during the fellowship year.

Faculty may apply either for a Michigan Humanities Award, offered by the College of LSA, or for an Institute for the Humanities Faculty Fellowship.  But they may not apply for both in the same year.
