Professor Sarah Burgard and recent alum Jennifer Ailshire (Ph.D. 2009) have won the American Sociological Association's Population section’s award for Distinguished Contribution to Scholarship in Population for their paper "Gender and Time for Sleep among U.S. Adults" published in the American Sociological Review.  Burgard is Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the department, and on September 1st, Ailshire will start a new position as Assistant Professor of Gerontology at the University of Southern California.

The Population Section will honor Sarah and Jennifer as well as other award winners at the section's reception at the ASA annual meetings this August in San Francisco.
