Recent doctoral recipient Avraham (Avi) Astor (Ph.D. 2011) has had his dissertation honored by the Rackham Graduate School.  His dissertation titled Mobilizing Against Mosques: The Origins of Opposition to Islamic Centers of Worship in Spain was recognized with an honorable mention in the 2011 Distinguished Dissertation Award competition.

Among the more than 750 dissertations produced at the University of Michigan last year, 53 were nominated for this prestigious award.  Eight awards and eight honorable mentions were conferred.
