20th Annual Charles F. Fraker Conference "What Do Social Movements Do?"

Friday, March 13, 2015
12:00 AM
Ann Arbor, MI

The graduate students of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan present the 20th Annual Charles F. Fraker Conference: What do Social Movements Do?, which will take place March 13th  and March 14th in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With this conference, we propose to explore the links between current academic works and social and political struggles across a wide range of historical and geographical contexts. We propose to discuss the strategies, differences, failures and goals of social movements, as well as the role of the academy and the importance of present political thought.

For the event, we will have two keynote speakers: Joan Copjec, Professor of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University, and John Holloway, Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Social Sciences and the Humanities at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. In addition, we will hold a series of graduate student panels; an exhibition of visual art related to social projects; and a round-table discussion with activists on recent incidents of state violence in the United States and Mexico.

Visit the conference website for the full program and more details.
