HEP - ASTRO SEMINAR | New Ideas for Searches of the Standard Model, Dark Matter, and Beyond in Run-II of the LHC

Monday, September 22, 2014
12:00 AM
335 West Hall

In the first part of this talk I will describe new approaches and ideas in the search for the production of dark matter at the LHC. Defined broadly, dark matter in this context is any new particle that is weakly interacting and is stable on collider time-scales. I will discuss what we have learnt from Run-I and its relevancy for astrophysics as well as what we hope to learn in Run-II and how we might go about doing so. In the second part of the talk I will present a promising new technique to improve many searches at the LHC, both for Standard Model processes as well as beyond. This part of the talk will be more specifically about collider physics, but will be made accessible to all.
