CM-AMO Seminar | Coupled Pattern Formation in the Belousov–Zhabotinsky Reaction
Robert Deegan (University of Michigan)
As a system is driven from equilibrium it develops structure. This structure can be highly ordered as for example in cellular convection in a fluid or in can be subtle such as in turbulence. Highly ordered states are now known to fall in to a few universal classes determined by symmetry and the type of instabilities active in the system. In this talk I will describe experiments and simulations that examine what happens when such pattern forming system must compete with each other.
