MCACA Awards $19,800 for Annual Exhibition

Award will fund a new curatorial process.

PCAP has been awarded $19,800 from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) for the 22nd Annual Exhibition of Art by Michigan Prisoners. The Annual Exhibition is one of the largest exhibitions of incarcerated artists in the country, with 500 works of art by 375 artists. The exhibit helps incarcerated citizens to become artists, brings their work into the public realm in order to humanize prisoners, and connects students and community members directly to the effect of mass incarceration and the power of art as sustenance. The MCACA award will support a new curatorial process, artist speaker fees, publicity materials, and an upgrade of exhibition design and installation. The exhibit runs from March 22-April 5, 2017, in the Duderstadt Center Gallery on the University of Michigan's North Campus. The opening reception will be held March 22, 2017. Sales begin at 6:00pm, with a program at 7:00pm.
