Researchers at the University of Michigan are the backbone of both MRC and UROP, through their generous sponsorship of student researchers. Faculty, research scientists, fellows and administrators all serve as Research Sponsors, volunteering their time to provide mentorship and support to first-year students engaging in research. By opening up their research to undergraduates, Research Sponsors give students have the opportunity to explore their interests outside the classroom. Research Sponsors teach students through hands-on, real-life exploration and problem solving.
In addition to acting as a Research Sponsor for a first-year student, researchers also contribute to our program by visiting the program and speaking with our students in small and large settings. Through our membership course, UC 104: Introduction to Research, Research Seminars and Dinner Discussions faculty share the content of their research, as well as their background, career path and the day-to-day realities of a researcher.
The “How to Get Involved” section provides additional information about the various ways faculty can and do contribute to MRC.
For current Research Sponsors, visit the “Dates and Requirements” page to see the deadlines our students’ have for their contracts, abstracts and the Spring Research Symposium.
