Mission & Goals

Mission

MIRA’s mission is to provide a forum for harnessing interdepartmental expertise on topics in which U-M can provide service and leadership to the global astrophysics community; to increase visibility of U-M astrophysics as a leader, and to nurture diversity within the field.

Goals

MIRA’s goals are to:
     • Leverage U-M’s strengths to spur discovery in the astrophysical sciences.
     • Enrich the intellectual climate for astrophysical research at U-M.
     • Build partnerships between U-M and leading researchers in the U.S. and around the globe.
     • Enhance student involvement in cutting-edge, interdisciplinary science

MIRA’s approach is to encourage departmental collaboration where researchers are working on aspects of the big astrophysical questions of our time. We then help focus this expertise on topics where we can leverage our strengths with those of other leading scientists to quicken the pace of discovery.
