In spring, Matthaei and the Arb burst into life. Over 20,000 daffodils in a line emerge and bloom at the Arb The fragrance of lilacs is on the air. Woody plants show off their flowers and the peonies peak in June.

Late May early June is a lovely time of year to visit the Peony Garden at the Arb. The original garden arrangement of 27 beds separated by season and color is still in place (and looking beautiful!) today.

  • Peonies Galore Sale - Nichols Arboretum
    Heirloom peonies for sale at Nichols Arboretum. June 1, 11:30 am-4:30 pm. Beautiful, old-fashioned varieties in shades of pink, white, and red such as Ben Franklin, Do Tell, Kansas, and many others. Pick up one or more of these beauties today at the Arboretum, 1610 Washington Hts. Also, don't miss the peony garden in bloom right next to the sale. This is the largest collection of heirloom peonies in North America.

  • A Tribute to Indiana Bob Balitewicz
