The Systems Group is responsible for the College of LSA’s Microsoft Windows environment. As of October 2008, the Windows Network consisted of 62 Win2003 Servers, 8 Windows 2000 Servers (VCMS v6 servers) and 5913 (down from 6254 last year) Windows workstations of which 2793 are managed. There are presently in over of 5,000 persons who use the network and are dependent upon it for their daily activities.
One manager and six full time systems administrators (SAs) manage and maintain the Windows network servers for the College. Of the seventy departments making up the College of LSA, twenty-two of them have local SAs for Windows workstation support. For the remaining forty-eight departments (departments without local SAs), the Computer Services Group (CSG), a unit within LSAIT, provides computing support for the Windows workstations.
