This page provides information about changing your password.
Note: U-M support staff will never ask for your password.
Most LSA services use your U-M uniqname and UMICH password for authentication. (Your UMICH password is known by several other names, including Kerberos and Level 1.) Your uniqname and UMICH password also gives you access to centralized services such as AFS (MFile), Canvas, CTools, MiStorage (including H: and S: drives), MCommunity directory services, MWireless, U-M Google Apps, and Wolverine Access. To change your UMICH password, use the UMICH Account Management change password page (requires authentication). There are a couple of reasons that you may be ask to changed your password, the most common being that an audit of passwords determined that it was weak or the password was compromised. It's also recommended that you change your password when the same password was used for non-university services, after you used the password on a public computer such as at a hotel or Internet cafe, or you told anyone your password (see the U-M Password Security Checklist for more details).
Local Application Passwords
Some applications, like some WordPress environments, aren't integrated into the common single-sign on system (one or more of AD, Cosign, LDAP, Shibboleth, or Weblogin). Contact the application owner for assistance. You can contact the LSA IT Service Desk if you need assistance identifying that application owner.
Local Machine Passwords
Some LSA computers, such as some Linux machines, many Mac OS X machines, and Windows laptops and machines intended for field use, have local accounts. These accounts do not have their password synchronized with your UMICH password. It is possible, but not recommended, to set your local account's password the same as your UMICH password; we recommend you not set them to be the same since if one is compromised that means both are.
