This book offers a detailed study of the first 19 years of the Hillel Foundation at the University of Michigan. Based on a thorough reading of archival material -- The Hillel News in particular -- the authors present a rich tapestry of Hillel's existence, identity and role in the lives of Jewish students at the University of Michigan during an era of heightened political tensions, economic worries and growing anti-Semitism in the state of Michigan and the country as a whole.
