This lecture is offered in connection with the exhibit of photographs of Texas Death Row inmates, running January 25 - February 24, 2007 at the Institute for the Humanities. Bill Crawford is a best selling author and producer who has lived and worked in Austin, Texas, since 1979. Crawford has authored or co-authored more than 16 books including, Texas Death Row: Executions in the Modern Era (Longstreet Press, 2001) and Stevie Ray Vaughan: Caught in the Crossfire (Little, Brown, 1995), and Border Radio: Quacks, Yodelers, Pitchmen, Psychics and Other Amazing Broadcasters of the American Airwaves (University of Texas Press, 2001). Crawford is also the creator of numerous educational programs including The Dad Show (radio) and The Texas Quiz Show (television). Larry Fitzgerald, former reporter, independent news producer and longtime Director of Communications for the State Bar of Texas, Fitzgerald served as the Public Information Manager for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice from 1995-2003. In that position, Fitzgerald coordinated agency efforts in dealing with worldwide media and witnessed 219 executions as part of the Texas execution team. Certified as an expert in the field of criminal justice/incarceration, Fitzgerald has worked as a criminal justice specialist since 2003.
