Martha Jones has published an analysis piece as part of The Washington Post's Made by History series. In "The 14th Amendment Solved One Citizenship Crisis, but it Created a New One," Jones explores how birthright citizenship came to be a barrier for undocumented immigrants.

Jones, a 2003-04 faculty fellow at the Institute for the Humanities who recently left U-M for a position at Johns Hopkins University, began the piece as part of a workshop through the Op Ed Project, a social venture founded to increase the range of voices and quality of ideas we hear in the world. The U-M workshop was sponsored by the Institute for the Humanities, LSA, and the U-M ADVANCE Program.
