The Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship Program supports outstanding doctoral students who have achieved candidacy and are actively working on dissertation research and writing; the program seeks to support students who are working on dissertations that are "unusually creative, ambitious, and risk-taking.”

Hannah McMurray has been awarded the Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship for 2015-2016 to support the writing of her dissertation, in which she considers the literary and visual oeuvre of German avant-garde writer and artist Kurt Schwitters. Hannah explores three sites where text and image converge - typography, advertising, and montage - and examines the contexts in which they appear. In doing so, she foregrounds transnational avant-garde networks, repositioning Schwitters as be a central figure within them.
