Emma joined the University of Michigan in 2010, and is pursuing a joint degree in History and Germanic Languages and Literatures. She completed her BA (Hons) at the University of Queensland in 2008, and went on to complete a Masters in History at the University of Melbourne. Her Masters thesis looked at discourses on youth cultures and policy in East German cinema from the 1950s to 1989, while her Honours thesis focused on manifestations and contestations of historical memory in the urban landscape of the Berlin Republic. Her interests in cultural history, gender and sexuality studies, and postcolonial theory have led to her dissertation project, which examines policies and practices pertaining to sexuality and gendered subjectivity in German colonial New Guinea. Emma has taught courses in German language and 20th century German History at the University of Michigan.
