Support the Planetarium
In October 2007, the Planetarium entered the digital age with the Uniview Project System. This represented a major upgrade from the old analog equipment and moved the Planetarium into the 21st century with shows that showcase science and astronomy at their colorful best. Now, audiences can:
- Experience a 3-D trip into deep space
- Go to the edge of the observable universe
- Study the universe from a ground-based perspective or from anywhere in space
- Learn about subjects other than astronomy in colorful 3-D animations
Attendance at Planetarium shows has increased dramatically since October. The audience of school groups and the general public is most enthusiastic about the new shows that have included "Origins of Life"and "Black Holes." Upcoming this summer is the children's show, "Zula Patrol" based on the popular PBS series.
In the fall, in coordination with National Diabetes Awareness Month in November, the Planetarium will be showing "Our Cells, Ourselves," a new show that explores the evolution of the human immune system as it pertains to Type 1 diabetes.
We continue to seek donations to offset the cost of purchasing new shows and maintenance upgrades for the new equipment.
