Our popular solar system show for younger children. Join Rachel, the Wonderful Rocket, on an exploration of the planets. Each show looks at the current night sky and covers bright stars, constellations and planets. Mythologies and interesting astronomical objects are included.

Sun, Earth, and Moon
Grades 2 - 12

Cost: $4.00 per person
This program teaches sky motions, seasons, rise and set, simple Moon phases, and eclipses (if requested) of the Sun, Earth, and Moon.
Recently revised as part of a doctoral project on early childhood learning in astronomy, the program is now more interactive, and focused on state benchmarks. In the words of a second grade teacher, “It was a great show and right on for second grade!”

The Solar System Live!

Stories My Ancestors Told
Grades 3 - Adult
Sky Legends of the Three Fires
Length: approximately 45 minutes
Format: Pre-recorded with live portion
Price: $4.00 per person
This program is available from mid-November to mid-March only, out of respect for the Native American tribes who traditionally tell stories only when animals are hibernating. Tales related to the night sky and how it formed are included, and come from the “Three Fires” people, the Ojibwa, Odawa, and Bodewadimi of Michigan. A night sky discussion is included. We recommend that this program be accompanied by our tour, Anishinabek: People of the Great Lakes, but each is available separately.

Seasons Lab
Grade 4 and up

The learn-by-doing measurement lab has your students recording the movement of the Sun during a “year” in the Planetarium. It provides data your students need to take back to school to calculate sun-hours, number of hours of daylight, rise and set positions, and the Sun’s noon altitude at the start of each season. Musical Sky
