The University of Michigan’s English Language Institute offers three full-time intensive academic English summer programs for students who are advanced non-native speakers of English and who have been admitted to a degree program at the University of Michigan or another college or university in the United States.
Participants in ELI Summer Programs learn and practice the specific language skills necessary to participate effectively in an academic setting. They also learn about the culture of the US university environment so that they can easily transition into their degree programs in the fall. Participants gain a wider understanding of the US university system, instructor expectations, and student responsibilities.
ELI Summer Programs take learning outside the classroom through unique community-based and socially-engaged learning opportunities which provide participants with insight into US culture and practice communicating with a diverse range of Americans.
Small class size and student-teacher conferences provide participants with extensive individual attention. A certificate of completion is awarded to participants who fulfill all program requirements.
