Jane Burbank and Frederick Cooper, both from New York University, returned to the University of Michigan Department of History on March 17 to discuss their book, Empires in World History: Power and the Politics of Difference. Joining the conversation were panelists Robyn d'Avignon, Hussein Fancy, Pedro Monaville, and Ronald G. Suny (all from U-M). Burbank and Cooper traced the origins of Empires in World History to their time at Michigan in the 1990s and early 2000s. This event was presented by the Department of History and the Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies.
