Science Café: Evolution and Deep Time

Wednesday, February 17, 2016
12:00 AM
Conor O'Neill's Traditional Irish Pub, 318 S. Main Street, Ann Arbor

How do modern researchers study the big patterns in evolution?  What is the nature of the evidence from modern diversity compared to the fossil record? Can these patterns help us understand the diversity of life on Earth, and what might they mean for the future? Join Professors Catherine Badgley and Stephen Smith of the U-M Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology as we explore new ways to visualize the tree of life, and data from computational, genetic, fossil and geochronological methods.

Science Cafés provide an opportunity for audiences to discuss current science topics with experts in an informal setting. Hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 PM; program 6:00-7:30 pm.
