Discover the steps that your muscles take to flex and contract in this hands-on demonstration! What does it take to move a muscle? How is the command to move carried out? Using a smartphone, participants will hear and observe their own brain-muscle signals that cause muscle contraction. The demonstration will end with an exciting experiment to use the muscle signals of one individual to stimulate and contract the muscles of another. Participants can make a model neuron to take home.
Hands-on demonstrations are 20-30 minute interactive programs on the 2nd floor of the Museum. They include both brief presentations highlighting University research and engaging hands-on activities, and are suitable for adults and children ages 5 and up.
