Learn how to incorporate environmental education into your teaching!
The University of Michigan Museum of Natural History offers educators several workshops to help get you and your students outside, engaging with the natural environment.
The workshops are based on Project WILD of Michigan, a program of the Council for Environmental Education, and Michigan Project Learning Tree, a program of the American Forest Foundation. Both organizations are known for their environmental education programs designed for teachers and other educators, parents and community leaders working with youth from preschool
through grade 12.
Activities are multidisciplinary and incorporate not only science but language arts, social science and math. Workshop participants receive the corresponding Curriculum and Activity Guides. Each training workshop is conducted in a hands-on, engaging environment that allows educators to gain the experience and confidence needed to integrate these activities into their teaching. A perfect addition to classroom units or nature center programming, using hands-on, engaging activities that get students outside.
The curriculum is aligned with state and national educational standards and SCECH's are available.
Project WILD - Project WILD focuses on wildlife and habitat.
Aquatic WILD - Project WILD format with emphasis on aquatic wildlife and aquatic ecology.
Flying WILD - Project WILD format with emphasis on birds.
Growing Up WILD - an early childhood program for children 3-7 years designed to provide a foundation to develop positive impressions about the nature world.
Project Learning Tree - an American Forest Foundation program that provides environmental education resources.
Project Learning Tree Early Childhood - an early childhood program for children ages 3 to 6 to explore, discover and communicate in expressive ways.
