The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures congratulates Assistant Professor Benjamin Paloff on his promotion, voted on and approved by the U-M Board of Regents Thursday, May 19, 2016, to associate professor of Slavic languages and literatures, with tenure, and associate professor of comparative literature, with tenure, LSA.

Professor Paloff has received excellent ratings from students in his undergraduate courses and has mentored graduate students in both the Slavic and comparative literature departments (he is director of graduate student studies in the comparative literature department). Professor Paloff is a top Slavic comparativist, working in Czech, Polish, and Russian. His forthcoming book, Lost in the Shadow of the Word (Northwestern University Press, 2016), won the 2015 Helen Tartar First Book Subvention Prize, and he also authored eleven substantial articles, two books of poetry, and nine book-length translations of Polish and Czech authors into English. The department looks forward to Professor Paloff's continued excellence in research and teaching over the course of a long career.
