dir. Borys Lankoz, 99 min. <br>-Free and open to the public-

Rewers (The Reverse), directed by Borys Lankoz, gives a glimpse of life in 1952 Poland and the cruelty of Stalinist times. Sabina is a 30-year-old woman whose mother and grandmother are pressuring her to choose a husband from their hand-picked list of candidates. One night a handsome stranger rescues Sabina from a mugging and their lives are never the same. He is ignorant but able to charm his way to their lives, promising to marry Sabina. There is a price however; she has to provide regular reports about her employer, the director of a publishing house, as the stranger is employed by the Secret Police. The movie moves from a romantic comedy to tragedy, from to a dark comedy to farce, offering a fresh approach to the cruelty of Stalinist times in Poland and how the people’s lives were shaped by it.

Rewers was chosen as Poland’s official candidate for the 82nd Academy Award entry for the best Foreign Language Film category. The film won multiple Golden Lions at the Gdynia festival in addition to the awards of the Association of Art House Cinemas, the Polish Federation of Film Discussion Clubs, and the Association of Foreign Organizers of Polish Film Festivals.
