December 9th marks an exciting milestone in Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP) history: the performance of PCAP’s 600th play. PCAP’s collaborative workshops in Michigan correctional facilities, juvenile facilities, and urban high schools foster creative expression and challenge social barriers of all kinds. Most workshops are facilitated by University of Michigan students. The culmination of PCAP’s theater workshops is the performance of an original play, created together by workshop participants. PCAP's first play was performed in 1990 at Florence Crane Correctional Facility. The 600th play will be performed at Calumet Center, a juvenile facility in Highland Park. A celebration of PCAP’s 600+ plays is being planned for January 2013.
