David Ogden presented his paper  "Assessing Uptake of Verb-Argument Constructions in a Corpus of Child and Child-Directed Speech" to a packed audience at the Georgetown University Round Table on Languages and Linguistics: Usage-based Approaches to Language, Language Learning, and Multilingualism.

A large-scale analysis of child and child-directed speech from the CHILDES database shows that the distribution of forms in verb-argument constructions matches that expected for robust learnability: a Zipfian distribution of verbs within tokens of the construction not predicted by the distribution of verbs in the corpus as a whole.
