Over 100 people turned out on +Saturday, April 5th 2014 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Michigan Linguistics Department. Current students and faculty joined former affiliates of the Linguistics Department and their families for a series of talks, a panel discussion, and a reception, kicked off by a welcome from our department chair, Professor Pam Beddor, and LSA Dean Susan Gelman.
Alumni Jessica Rett (BA 2001, now Assistant Professor at UCLA), Lauren Squires (PhD 2001, now Assistant Professor at OSU), and David W. Lightfoot (PhD 1971, now Professor at Georgetown) gave academic talks on Linguistics.
The talks were followed by a panel discussion about careers after a Linguistics BA featuring Alumni Neal Blatt (BA 1992, now Assistant Professor at UM Pediatric Nephrology), Shang Kong (BA 2010, now pending lawyer at Dykema Gossett PLLC), Keli Licata (BA 2004, now Speech-Language Pathologist at UM Aphasia Program), Emma Schroder (BA 2008, now student at Grand Valley State), and Kate McCreight Young (BA 1984, now Principal Scientist at N-Space Analysis, LLC). We hope to see everyone back in another 50 years!
