THE MAP is a GIS depiction of the Atlantic World and the Transatlantic slave trade. It has several components: 1. A GIS depiction of the 34,000 transatlantic slave trade voyages found in the Transatlantic slave trade database (www.slavevoyages.org). 2. A GIS depiction of the Atlantic world between 1450 and 1850, including historical maps, ocean currents and winds, typological data, maps of cities and ports, etc. 3. A fling system for classroom artifacts and assignments that can be accessed by clicking a point on THE MAP. 3. A demonstration of how to use GIS data to do quantitative and qualitative social history research.
