Scholarship Support for Participation in the Digital Humanities Summer Institute at the University of Victoria, June 2016

As part of the initiative in Digital Currents, the Institute for the Humanities invites applications for grant support to participate in the 2016 Digital Humanities Summer Institute in Victoria, British Columbia. The DHSI is a well-established, annual training institute that provides workshops and courses on topics related to the digital humanities. The list of this year’s courses, as well as other information about the program, can be found at dhsi.org.

These grants ask for matching support from the applicant’s home department. We anticipate awarding five grants for summer 2016. Grant awards will be based on the plan of study, including the statement of interest and rationale for participation. The Institute for the Humanities will grant up to $800 per graduate student ($500 for tuition, paid directly by the institute, plus $300 for travel and lodging).

Eligibility

Students enrolled in doctoral programs in (LSA) humanities departments at the University of Michigan are invited to apply. Even if you do not consider yourself a “digital humanist,” you may find DHSI courses useful to your research.

Criteria for funding include: relevance of the course offerings to the applicant’s dissertation, need for (further) training pursuant to research for that dissertation, and the applicant’s status in his or her graduate program.

How & When to Apply

To apply, submit this form online. You will be asked to submit a 500-word rationale for your participation in a particular course offered through the DHSI, as well as a budget. Direct any questions to Patrick Tonks (tonks@umich.edu, 734.763.4463).

The deadline for applications is November 13th, 2015 at noon.
