Living Room Series "A Picture Screen Stands in Solitude"

Thursday, February 18, 2016
12:00 AM
Keene Theatre, East Quad

A musical composition performanced by Paul Dresher, Nueberg and Davel,  based upon San Quentin inmate Michael Nelson's essay, originally written for an assignment given by artist Nigel Poor at San Quentin Prison.

The evening will present a performance by Dresher and his ensemble, followed by a conversation with artist Nigel Poor, moderated by Stephen Rush, professor UM School of Music and Dance, examining the origins of this remarkable work, and the cross-pollination/collaboration from image to text to musical score and performance. Finally, after the conversation, the piece will be played again.

First 50 audience members will receive a limited edition copy of Assignment #2, the original essay written by Mchael Nelson, as part of the San Quentin project, with images from Hiroshi Sugimoto and Richard Misrach.

Speaker:
Paul Dresher and ensemble Amy X Neuberg and Joel Davel
