U-M Professor of Philosophy, Comparative Literature and Art History--and former Institute for the Humanities Director-- Daniel Herwitz reads from and talks with U-M professor/poet Linda Gregorson about his upcoming memoir Bad Blood. It is a dark family drama about immigrants who fiercely rise in America to positions of wealth and fortune, retaining the deep scars of battle they have endured along the way. Grandiose, believing the world is now in post-War America their oyster, they sup on the world's treasures, acquiring vast collections from Thailand to Bhutan and back to New York. At once training their children to inhabit this glorious world of power and possessions, and ready to crash them down when they don't toe the ropes, these parental actions, facing off a difficult family of idiomatic young people, lead to a complete destruction of the family.
