Honors Housing

Where is Honors Housing Located?

Honors Housing has reserved spaces in the recently renovated South Quad: Frederick, Taylor, Hunt, and Bush.  Single-gender and substance-free housing options are available in Frederick House.  We plan to make Bush House (5th and 6th floors) our reserved space for returning Honors students (i.e. sophomores, juniors, and seniors), although we have also made selected singles in other houses available to returners.  Returning students who follow the procedures outlined below will have the opportunity to select one of these reserved rooms, subject to the terms of the Housing registration process.  Only students who are currently members of the Honors Program and in good standing are eligible for Honors Housing.  We are not able to grant exceptions to this policy. Are You a New, Incoming Student Who Applied for On-Campus Housing?

If you applied for on-campus housing as a new incoming student, residence hall contracts are available online beginning mid-June. A message will be sent to your University email account when the contract is ready for your review. Contracts must be submitted online within three days from the date of contract notification. Assignment information is not provided over the telephone. This contract will give you information about which dorm you have been assigned to, but will not have information about roommate assignments or Move-In information. Please remember that while we make every effort to house all Honors students who requested to live in Honors Housing, we have a limited number of spaces and do not guarantee placement in Honors Housing. If requests exceed space, students will be randomly chosen for Honors Housing.

Your mailing address, roommate notification, approximate room dimensions and move-in information (including your unloading permit and driving directions) become available online early August. If you have been placed in Honors Housing in South Quad (SQuad, as it is nicknamed), you will be assigned a Move-In time, usually the last Wednesday in August. If you are placed elsewhere on campus, Move-In will be Wednesday, August 30 through Friday, September 1. You'll be offered the chance to select a date and time from available time windows for moving in. Be sure to check your email over the summer for Move-In information, including maps, traffic information, where to send packages, and other helpful tips. What are the Benefits of Honors Housing?

Honors Housing offers the opportunity for additional contact with your Honors classmates, as well as additional social and educational opportunities planned by the Honors Residential Advisors. A schedule is posted at the beginning of Fall semester, outlining HRA-scheduled events and programs.  Honors Housing highlights in recent years have included:

  • Honors Kickoff Photo Scavenger Hunt,
  • Explore Detroit Events (Tigers, Red Wings, North American Auto Show),
  • Explore Ann Arbor Events (Cider Mill & Farm, Roos Roast)
  • Annual Honors Charity Ball,
  • MLK Symposium,
  • Fisher Theater and Wharton Center Musicals (Book of Mormon, Miss Saigon, Billy Elliot),
  • Music events (University Musical Society, Ann Arbor Folk Festival).

All Honors students are welcome to participate in Honors Housing activities, no matter their place of residence. Students hear of events via HRA emails and our weekly newsletter, "This Week in Honors."
