David Hancock's lecture on the corporation in America will air at 8:00pm ET on Saturday January 18, 2014.

In this class, Professor Hancock discusses Edward Bernays and the rise of corporate public relations. Edward Bernays was an influential pioneer in the field of public relations and marketing, and he believed public sentiment could be manipulated as a result of what he termed a “herd instinct.” He was responsible for many notable public relations campaigns in the first half of the 20th century, including his efforts in the 1930s to increase the number of women smokers for Lucky Strike cigarettes.
