ELI 536: Pronunciation I

10-week course

This course is designed to enable graduate students to express themselves more clearly and comprehensibly. Class work focuses on the vowel and consonant sound systems, and on the differences between sound and spelling in English. Participants learn how to use the basics of  stress, rhythm and intonation in phrases and short sentences. Activities include:

  • Listening exercises
  • Choral reading
  • Prepared mini-speeches
  • Role plays
  • Informal presentations
